FAQs

Where are you located?

16 E 79th St, New York, NY 10075

What hours are you open?

Monday 8 AM – 9PM
Tuesday 8 AM – 9PM
Wednesday 8 AM – 9PM
Thursday 8 AM – 9PM
Friday 8 AM – 5PM

How long are sessions?

A standard therapeutic hour is 45-50 minutes.
For couples or family therapy, we recommend scheduling 90-100 minutes.

How do I set up an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment in one of three ways:

  1. Email and one of our therapists will get back to you within a few hours.
  2. Fill out the and one of our therapists will get back to you within a few hours.
  3. Call and speak with our office manager between the hours of 8 AM and 5PM.

We like to make sure that we are the right people to help you. Our first priority is to schedule a free 15-minute phone conversation with one of our therapists before you come in – to make sure we aren’t wasting your time or money!

What is your cancellation policy?

We have a 24-hour cancellation policy.

If you cancel with less than 24-hours’ notice, but are able to reschedule with your therapist/coach within that same work week, you will only be charged for the make-up session.

However, if you cancel with less than 24 hours and cannot find a mutual time with your therapist that week, we will charge you the session fee (it’s nothing personal – your therapist has set aside that hour just for you and with less than 24-hours’ notice, cannot fill that time.)

What age ranges do you work with?

We work with ages 12 and older.

Who do you work with?

We work with anyone who we feel we can help – and who wants our help.

While we are dedicated to working with women, we do work with men as well. We also work with couples and families.

Is there more than one kind of therapy?

Yup! There are actually lots of different kinds of therapy – the most well-known are Psychodynamic (or Relational) therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), but there are other types as well.

Some types of therapy are better to fix certain problems – and worse for others. That is why we schedule the 15-minute consultation – to make sure you are going to get exactly what is best for your particular problem.

What do you actually do in sessions?

Mostly, we talk. Depending on the type of therapy you’re doing, we might talk about:

  • your thoughts and behaviors – and how we can shift them to help you achieve your goals
  • your coping mechanisms – and teach you some new skills that can help you manage your emotions and behaviors
  • your relationships with your friends and family – and eventually (once it’s established enough) use the relationship with your therapist as a place to explore patterns of relating and even experiment with new ways of being in relationship

Do you give homework or assignments to do between sessions?

It depends on the type of therapy you’re doing. But, when we think it can help – and when you’re willing to try it – we do.

What is your professional training and experience?

We come from a wide variety of educational and experiential backgrounds. Some of us are Psychologists, some are Clinical Social Workers, and some are Mental Health Counselors. We are all trained to do therapy.

We also continue to train as part of our work together. Some of the topics we train include:

  • Further study of Eating Disorders and our evolving understanding of the biological and psychological mechanisms – as well as exploration of new and emerging treatment options
  • Improving and learning new techniques in DBT
  • Learning Systems Centered Therapy in an experiential group – yup, we do our own therapy group together
  • Meeting with colleagues in the community to learn about all of the different complimentary modalities available to help you

What else does a client need to know to make the most out of working with you?

You get what you give. We aren’t mind readers – we need you to participate in the process.

The more you tell us, the more honest you are (no matter how hard), the more we can help. Better to give too much information than too little!

Do you accept insurance?

We work with clients who have Cigna, Aetna, BCBS, United and many other popular insurance carriers as out-of-network providers. Although we do not accept insurance directly, we use a wonderful app called Nirvana Health, that will quickly estimate how much you can expect to pay for therapy before and after insurance kicks in.

What kinds of payment to you accept?

IntrinPsych Women accepts Debit and Credit Cards for payments.

What brand of paper products do you have in your office?

None of that rough, generic stuff – therapy is hard enough without feeling like you’re wiping your tears away with cardboard!

We provide Kleenex (Ultra Soft) tissues for anyone who walks through our door. We also use Charmin or Quilted Northern toilet paper. And, given that we are dedicated to working with women, we provide Tampons as well.

What if I’m not into all that spiritual stuff?

Then we won’t talk about it! It’s not that we have to talk about it – we just aren’t afraid to.

Have you ever been in therapy?

One of the requirements to work at IntrinPsych Woman is that each therapist has experienced what it’s like to be on the other side of the room – “on the couch.” We know what this feels like!
